The Apple – “King” of the Fruit – “Delicious and crunchy”

One apple eaten whole with the skin has about 3.6 grams of fiber nearly 17% of recommended daily dietary fiber intake. This is enough to contribute substantially to colon health if eaten daily. Apple is good for anyone undergoing treatment for chronic enteritis, prostate problems, intestinal infection, and inflammation of the colon, goiter, gout, diarrhea, arthritis, herpes, and acid stomach. Researchers at Cornell University say the phytochemical quercetin in apples has stronger anticancer properties than vitamin c. a strong anti- inflammatory, quercetin is known for foe effectiveness in treating prostate problems. Apples help detoxify metals in the body, protect against heart diseases, clean bladder, protect against the effects of radiation exposure, lower blood cholesterol and blood pressure, maintain circulatory and intestinal health, and stabilize blood sugar. Latest research shows that apples may help prevent the lung disorders. The parts eaten include the skin, core, and flesh.

Key nutrients in apples include: vitamin B6, vitamin C, iron, potassium, sodium, phosphorous, calcium, sulfur, magnesium, boron, fiber, fructose, glucose, octacosanol, sucrose, zinc, copper, manganese, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, folate, vitamin E, malic acid, and tartaric acid. Important phytochemicals include: beta carotene, quercetin, phytosterols, pectin, gallic acid, ellagic acid, ferulic acid, caffeic acid, tocopherol, chlorogenic acid, chlorophyll, catechin, p-coumaric acid, rutin, and sinapic acid.

Place apples in plastic bags and store them in the crisper compartment of the refrigerator. Apples purchased in good condition should keep for up to six weeks in the refrigerator. Wash apples thoroughly before using them. Apples are on the list of produce with heavy pesticides residues. If the fruit has been waxed, peel the skin before consuming. To prevent the flesh from browning if it is not eaten immediately, rub the cut surfaces of apple with a mixture of lemon juice and water.
